V. velutina is still in the government eradication phase – this training is for future preparations for qualified and experienced professional pest controllers

UK government is continuing to take contingency action to prevent V. velutina from establishing. Plans for long term management and control are required should eradication no longer be possible. This training is for future preparations for qualified and experienced professional pest controllers.

Background

Killgerm Training have worked with the Animal and Plant Health Agency and the Non-Native Species Secretariat / Inspectorate for a decade, in highlighting the relevance of Vespa velutina and training government field staff such as wildlife management specialists and non-native species inspectors. In particular, Melvin Knapp ACE-I (Technical Manager South and Associate Certified Entomologist - International) has field experience of Vespa velutina biology & behaviour plus control. Therefore Killgerm Training are very well-placed to offer this training. The training materials used by Killgerm Training have been delivered to government field staff over the last 10 years and have been developed in conjunction with key staff at the Animal and Plant Health Agency and Non-Native-Species Secretariat / Inspectorate.

This initial limited-numbers course is aimed at experienced and qualified professional pest controllers, especially those in areas of known Vespa velutina risk, such as Kent. The RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this course. Note that taking action against V. velutina continues to be a government responsibility. This course is for those who may wish to make future preparations regarding Vespa velutina.
