Wild Bird Trapping (Scotland)

Introduction

The Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024 introduced a requirement for anyone operating traps to catch wild birds must have:

  1. attended an approved training course, and
  2. been issued an individual license from NatureScot.

This course follows the Scottish Government approved course contents and so fulfils part 1 of this new requirement.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Corvid Species
  • Law surrounding wild bird traps
  • Types of trap
  • Welfare requirements of decoy birds
  • Trap operation

Assessment: There is a short assessment consisting of a 20 question multiple choice paper, and a practical assessment that must be passed before the qualification is achieved.

Who should Attend?

The course is aimed at existing users of corvid traps, however all are welcome to attend.

Award: BASC Wild Bird Trapping (Scotland) Certificate
Course Duration: Half a day (afternoon)
